The NY Military Naturalization ProjectThe Italian Genealogical Group is proud to give something back to the online genealogical world... The complete index to much of the Military Naturalization Records of Greater NY!
(We have provided a printable form to request Naturalization Records from Nassau County) (We have provided a printable form to request Naturalization Records from Suffolk County) The Italian Genealogical Group, along with members German Genealogy Group, the Jewish Genealogical Society of Long Island and the Irish History Forum, are involved in an ongoing project to computerize an index to naturalization records processed in military camps. At this time the project only encompasses the New York Tri-State Area, but new records will be included as they become available. This military database consists of over 36,000 individuals from all over the country. Among these records are names of military personnel who petitioned the government for citizenship while at various military camps. They were situated in the New York Tri-State Area. There were thousands of men trained at these locations and while the majority of the men were from the New York metropolitan area, there were also many from as far away as the states of California and Washington. This database has importance not only to New Yorkers but also to many from all over the United States. Particularly for soldiers who were processed for discharge at the end of World War I in November 1918. These men were very often not from the New York area. It is suggested that if you can't find a relative, who became a citizen during the World War I period, no matter where they lived originally, check the World War I naturalization records. You can do a search by surname or Soundex Code. If using the surname search you can enter the entire surname or a portion of the surname. The records for this index are located in one of the four repositories listed below. Copies of the naturalization record can be obtained by contacting the particular repository. The database includes the following records:
