The Southern District Court of NY Naturalization Project

This database contains the naturalization records that were issued between 1907 and 1959 by the Southern District Court, which includes Manhattan and the Bronx. It contains 709,215 records. If we are able to get more volunteers we can expand this database to include petitions going back to 1907. This is by far the largest database the IGG has created so far for the genealogical community.

Members of the various genealogical group that make up the Genealogy Federation of Long Island have come together to create this very important database. It just goes to show what cooperation can accomplish. Many of these same volunteers helped to create the Suffolk County Naturalizations, Nassau County Naturalizations, and Military Naturalizations databases. Everyone who has assisted in these projects has given a little bit back to genealogy for which current and future researchers will be very grateful.

All of our databases have been made available to researchers at the Family History Library in Plainview, Long Island and the National Archives, Northeast Regional office in New York City.

How to Obtain Copies of Naturalization papers

(We have provided a printable form to request Naturalization Records from the National Archives in NY)

Copies of the naturalization papers can be obtained from the National Archives by using the form you can download.

Copies can also be made at the National Archives, 201 Varick Street, New York, NY 10014 and are much cheaper since you only pay for photocopying charges.

Special credit and thanks goes to Don Eckerle, who with his computer savvy, made this project practicable. With his expertise, we are able to fix our mistakes, and convert the various computer programs that our volunteers used into a single database and a highly useful research tool.

WEBMASTER'S NOTE:
Extra Special Credit must go to the one person that spearheaded this entire project...John Martino. It is only through his dedication that the entire world can now access these important records.
